The offseason is officially upon us, and with that comes teams re-upping and rearming for the 2025-26 season. Some teams need more than others, while some return a vast majority of their roster and need just a few tune-up pieces. When it comes to the Big 12 Conference, a wild, wacky 2024-25 season saw the preseason rankings turned on their head with the Arizona State Sun Devils going from worst to first and winning the Big 12 title.

From the Arizona State Sun Devils tothe Texas Longhorns, many teams went above and beyond expectations to make it a special year fortheir program. This article is not about those teams. For every successful team this season, there was also ateam that underperformed and did not come close to meeting expectations. These teams stuck outabove the rest in that regard. How the mighty have fallen.

The 90th Annual Heisman Trophy Ceremony was held in New York on Dec. 14 at Columbus Circle. Four finalists forged strong seasons that got them to this point. Quarterback Dillon Gabriel of the Oregon Ducks, running back Ashton Jeanty of the Boise State Broncos, and quarterback Cam Ward of the Miami Hurricanes all had masterful seasons that stood out among the rest, but only one could take the coveted trophy home.

The Heisman Trophy finalists were announced this past week with Colorado Buffaloes two-way athlete Travis Hunter, Boise State Broncos running back Ashton Jeanty, Oregon Ducks quarterback Dillon Gabriel and Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward being named the final four candidates. The four players just mentioned have had fantastic seasons. Hunter is arguably the best two-way player we’ve seen in the 21st century.
