AS Monaco leapfrogged Olympique de Marseille into second in Ligue 1 after maintaining their unbeaten home league record in 2025 (W7, D1) by beating Olympique Lyonnais 2-0 to ensure UEFA Champions League football at Stade Louis II next season. Lyon goalkeeper Lucas Perri was almost left red-faced inside seven minutes after seeing his attempted clearance charged down by Mika Biereth, who saw his block go wide.

FSV Mainz extended their unbeaten Bundesliga run at home to 11 games, coming from behind to draw 1-1 with rivals Eintracht Frankfurt, who consequently failed to guarantee themselves a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League (UCL) this weekend, but did move four points clear of fourth-placed SC Freiburg. The visitors issued a statement of intent inside the opening minute courtesy of talisman Hugo Ekitiké, with his effort impressively saved by Lasse Rieß, who was making his senior debut.

Olympique de Marseille ran out 4-1 winners against mid-table Stade Brestois 29 thanks to Amine Gouiri’s hat-trick to regain second place in Ligue 1, although Roberto De Zerbi’s men have now gone a seventh successive game without keeping a clean sheet. Barely a minute in, Brest had a golden opportunity to take the lead, as Mathias Pereira Lage’s flicked header found Abdallah Sima, who bore down on goal, but saw his close-range effort from an angle saved by Geronimo Rulli.

Borussia Dortmund’s 3-1 win over Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday was ultimately in vain as they lost 5-3 on aggregate in the quarter-finals. In spite of crashing out, BVB will have taken encouragement from getting a victory against one of world football’s most dangerous sides in what has been a difficult campaign for the German giants, one which could yet get worse as they could miss out on European football altogether for next season.

Craven Cottage looking magnificent in the sunshine (before everything went to shit). https://t.co/pa3XkeVVFY

Ironically given the scoreline, I thought our overall first-half performance was one of our best of the season. We often seem to get downhearted though when something then goes against us in a game that we're dominating (in this case their deflected equaliser).

Don't blame Silva for us going 3-1 down - that was down to a combination of bad luck and individual errors - but his substitutions were strange given how much time was left to claw the game back. Sess' exit killed our structure and both ESR and Wilson were looking lively.
