NORFOLK- The towns of Yutan and Mead are separated by less than 10 miles. Because of that distance and the relatively same size of the schools, they also consider themselves rivals. On April 28, the two schools teamed up for a change and dominated the Class C State Journalism competition at Northeast Community College in Norfolk. Winning for an unprecedented seventh straight year in the team sweepstakes was Yutan with 596 points.

MURRAY- With districts just around the corner, the Yutan and Raymond Central track and field teams traveled to the Capitol Conference Invite on May 3. Taking second with 116 points in the girl’s team standings were the Chieftains while the Mustangs came in sixth with 31 points. For the boys, Yutan was third with 66 points and Raymond Central got fifth with 52 points. Finishing in first on the track for the Yutan girls were Mylee Tichota and Molly Besch.

NORTH BEND- On an overcast day, the Wahoo boys golf team put their best foot forward at the North Bend Invite on April 30. The Warriors came in second place overall, carding +29 while Cedar Bluffs/Mead took ninth shooting +59. Luke Specht medaled for the Warriors in a tie for fourth place carding 72. He birded on both the first and third holes which helped him shoot a 35 on the front nine and then a 37 on the back nine. Tying for 19th place was Braylon Iversen who shot a season-best score of 82.

TECUMSEH- The Mead boys track and field team put together one of their best performances at the East Central Nebraska Conference Invite in recent memory on May 3 at Tecumseh. In a field of eight schools, the Raider boys came in third place with 53 points. Getting seventh with eight points were the Mead girls. Taking home conference titles in both the long jump and triple jump was Mason Reed. He won the long jump with a mark of 19-07 and the triple jump by going 41-09.

COLUMBUS- Against some of the top runners that Class C and B has to offer, the Bishop Neumann boys and girls track teams battled to top-five finishes at the Centennial Conference Invite on May 3. Getting second with 97 points were the Neumann boys while the girls took fourth with 87 points. On the track, the Cavalier boys dominated the hurdle events. Winning the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.28 was Beau Fujan. Right behind in second place was Henry Stuhr running 15.66.
