CINCINNATI — Simas Lukosius scored 18 points, Aziz Bandaogo added 17 and Dillon Mitchell 14 to lead No. 14 Cincinnati to an 84-67 victory over Howard on Sunday. Cincinnati (7-1) led by four points after one half and came out firing in the second, hitting three straight baskets to extend its lead to 10 points. The Bearcats outscored Howard Bison (3-6) 48-35 in the second half to seal the win and rebound from Tuesday’s eight-point loss to Villanova.

CINCINNATI — One year in the Big 12 — and only one conference win to show for it. The Cincinnati Bearcats' first season after moving from the American Athletic Conference was a disappointment. In 2023, the Bearcats finished 3-9 and just 1-8 in Big 12 games. That included an 0-5 record at home and four losses by 20 points or more. Even after winning their first Big 12 game at Houston, the Bearcats lost the last two games by a combined score of 91-37.

No. 12 Virginia Tech softball traveled to North Carolina on Wednesday for a midweek matchup with unranked Charlotte. Unfortunately for the Hokies (18–3–1), things did not go their way, as they fell to the 49ers, 8–4, in a disappointing loss. Starting in the circle for the Hokies was junior Emma Lemley, who had an exceptional day in the circle. She threw four innings, giving up two earned runs on three hits while also striking out eight batters. Lyndsey Grein came in to relieve Lemley.

Virginia Tech softball opened conference play on Saturday with a doubleheader against Notre Dame. (14–3–1, 2–0 ACC) got off to a slow start in game one, going hitless through the first two innings. They fell behind the Irish (8–7, 0–2 ACC), 1–0, after an error from catcher Kylie Aldridge allowed Cassidy Grimm to score. However, the Hokies got the bats going in the third, scoring three runs thanks to an RBI triple from Addy Greene and a two-RBI double from Cori McMillan.

Virginia Tech softball matched up with ACC opponent Louisville Cardinals on Saturday in Louisville, Kentucky, for a doubleheader to start their weekend series. Game One: Virginia Tech 11, Louisville 1 (five innings)The Hokies (17–3–1, 5–0 ACC) jumped to an early 3–0 lead in the second inning thanks to RBI singles off the bats of Emma Ritter, Addy Greene and Cameron Fagan. However, the Hokies didn't stop there; they tacked on another eight runs in the fifth, again thanks to RBI singles.

Virginia Tech softball (11–3–1) ended its stint at the Georgia Classic on Sunday with a win over Radford, bringing its record for the weekend to 4–1. The Hokies’ bats were hot at the plate, as the team racked up 13 hits on their road to a 13–1 victory. However, it was the freshmen who stood out at the plate on Sunday morning. Freshman Zoe Yaeger had her best day at the plate all season. Yaeger went 3-for-3 on the day with a pair of home runs and drove in five of the Hokies’ 13 runs.

Virginia Tech softball traveled to Athens, Georgia, on Friday to compete in the Georgia Classic hosted by the University of Georgia. The Hokies’ first game of the tournament was against New River Valley neighbors Radford University. Virginia Tech (8–2–1) made easy work of Radford (6–2), defeating the Highlanders in just six innings, by a score of 8–0. In the circle in game one for the Hokies was sophomore Cassie Grizzard.
