Sep. 28—Big things are happening at T&W Towing, as what started out as a pickup, one wrecker and one full-time employee six years ago now has 19 trucks, nine full-time employees and three locations. Dustin Tramm, general manager at T&W Towing, described the business as a locally-owned towing company with a focus on taking care of the community and being the largest towing business within the county.

Sep. 26—The Albert Lea school board approved certification of the proposed 2023 pay '24 levy for the maximum levy authority, after Jennifer Walsh, executive director of finance, proposed it to the school board Monday night. In total, between the general fund, community service and debt service, Walsh is projecting the levy service to increase 6.67%, meaning the total proposed levy is just over $10 million.

United Methodist Church will host a community dinner called Taste of Grace at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. Come together for life conversations. There will be a story and conversation with people at each table during the hour together. The meal includes a pork sandwich, macaroni salad and cookies. The event is free. United Methodist Church is at 702 Highway 69 S. Emmons Veterans Memorial Park will host a dedication ceremony for the Huey helicopter at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Sep. 22—Country artist Casi Joy is coming to Albert Lea to perform a set Sept. 30 at Three Oak Vineyards and Winery. "I actually started singing when I was 5 years old," Joy said. "I had found a cassette tape with a karaoke version of 'Angels Among Us' by Alabama on the other side of the tape."She learned the lyrics and began performing in her room, before asking her parents to let her perform in a local talent show. "They were confused as all get out, but they said yes," she said.

Sep. 22—Albert Lea High School has a new homecoming king and queen, as Diego Balbuena Vidal and Ava Bremer were crowned during a coronation at the high school Friday morning. "I feel pretty honored, pretty glad that people in the school and the school look up to me," Balbuena Vidal said. "It's pretty cool being part of this experience."Balbuena Vidal is the son of Teodora Balbuena and Dalia Vidal. He is a soccer captain, participates in track and field and is a barber.

To get that message across to the community, they're having a Recovery for Live event Sept. 30 at Central Park — the first ever. Sep. 19—The Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment tests were not the only tests students in Albert Lea took last year, as students at St. Theodore Catholic School took Northwest Evaluation Association tests. "They're very comparable," said Sue Amundson, principal at the school. "They still check to see if our kids are meeting the standards and different things."One notable difference between the two assessments: Immediate feedback, something Amundson appreciated.
