I’ve just spent a week on Medium. OK, not the entire week but I had to isolate with Covid, so nothing else to do. I’ve written a couple of things, and I’ve had time to read Medium articles, like never before. To every writer whose material is well written, well researched, witty and opinionated, thanks. I’m delighted that you get a share of my monthly subscription. This rant, as you’ve guessed, isn’t about them.

I knew what the consultation was going to be about the moment they walked into the room. Carol, a confident, attractive, fifty-something blonde bustled in. She was holding the forearm of John, who walked reluctantly a pace behind her. His face was an expression halfway between apprehension and outright fear.
