Cranes offloaded the five-car Mark V train, across two separate days, onto the tracks at our SkyTrain Operations and Maintenance Centre, near Edmonds Station.

At least two homes and a shed have been destroyed by a fast-moving bushfire which cut off Dolphin Sands on Tasmania’s east coast on Sunday night. The blaze was downgraded from Emergency to Watch and Act and came under control as of Monday morning. The fire grew to around 112 hectares after being fanned by strong winds on Sunday night which are forecast to whip up again on Monday.

The Treasurer is shrugging off the latest Commsec State of the States report indicating Tasmania’s economy has fallen from first in the country to sixth. The quarterly snapshot assesses eight indicators: economic growth, retail spending, equipment investment, unemployment, construction work done, population growth, housing finance and dwelling commencements. Michael Ferguson says Commsec found there’s little to separate the top six states and territories in terms of economic performance.

More Tasmanians will be able to become posties, with nation-leading rule changes allowing anyone with a car licence to drive new electric trikes as of December. Australia Post already has around 90 three-wheelers delivering mail around Tasmania – they’re a big upgrade on the traditional motorbike with room for 100 small parcels and 1200 letters at a time.

Huon Valley Council is hoping to draw a line under a troubled chapter, with the resignation of General Manager Jason Browne. Mr Browne has called it a day two years into a five-year term in the wake of what the state’s auditor-general labelled a “flawed” recruitment process, which saw a consultant he was in a relationship with recommend him for the role. The Australian Services Union also slammed a 6.5 per cent pay rise for the GM awarded last year.

Tasmania’s cruise season is underway after the Pacific Adventure visited Hobart on Wednesday. The ship brought up to 3000 passengers and 1100 crew to Tasmania, the first of 155 visits booked for Tassie ports for 2023-24. Hobart is expecting another 82 visits while there are also 39 booked for Burnie and 23 for Port Arthur, along with a handful for Coles Bay, Bell Bay and King Island.

Tourists stuck at the east coast township of Coles Bay are likely to remain cut off from the Tasman Highway for at least Wednesday morning after the state’s worst bushfire scare for spring so far. An emergency warning for Friendly Beaches was downgraded to a watch and act alert on Tuesday night, with rain falling in the area which was also hit by gusts of just over 100 kilometres an hour.

A Bridgewater GP clinic is set to close. Around 8000 patients who depend on Greenpoint Medical Services are coming to terms with news they’ll have to find another GP by December 8, with the books at many other Greater Hobart doctors already closed. Greenpoint’s operator says despite its commitment to the Bridgewater community, they’re faced with challenges that have made continuing operations unsustainable, but will assist patients in finding other healthcare providers.

Tigers legend Jack Riewoldt is being tasked with coming up with the “DNA” of Tasmania’s AFL team. The recently-retired Riewoldt will head up an extensive consultation project known as The Fabric, aimed at building the team’s culture. “The Fabric will represent each and every strand that makes up the rich tapestry of our Club, who we are, what we stand for, what we believe in, our history and our collective vision for the future,” he said.
