FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) -It’s now the time of the year when University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) basketball squads begin hitting the courts, and the women’s team rung in the new season on Saturday with the annual Blue and Gold Game. After last year’s struggles, the coaching staff got to work in the offseason and brought in veteran presence and young talent.

ShareFAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) -It was a tough two game this past weekend for the Nanook’s hockey team, with two one goal losses against the Michigan Tech Huskies. Game one saw the Huskies score 15 seconds into the game. The Nooks eventually tied things up 14:39 into the second period. Matt Koethe tallied his first goal of the season after a faceoff win from Kyle Gaffney, giving Gaffney the assist.

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) -The Alaska Sports Broadcasting Network (ABSN) came out with their top five preseason polls for Division One and Division Two and Three. In Division One, it goes West Anchorage, East Anchorage, Colony, South Anchorage, and Bartlett are in the top five, with Dimond getting some votes. Those top five teams have some interesting games, with West Anchorage taking on Colony to start the season. East Anchorage matches up with Juneau, South Anchorage takes on Service.

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - News for Nanook Nation this time from the transfer portal for Division I hockey. The Nooks hockey team has picked up defenseman Adam Cardona from UMass Lowell. Cardona appeared in 16 games for the River Hawks in his freshman campaign, scoring one goal against Boston University.

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) -Nanook alumni and St. Louis Blues defenseman Colton Parayko is coming back up to Fairbanks for the Parayko Hockey Camp at the Patty Center from July 9 to July 11. There will be four age groups, Group A will be ages 13 to 14 and they will hit the ice from 8 am to 9 am. Group A will be ages 11 to 12. They will hit the ice from 9:15 am to 10:15 am. Group C will be ages 9 to 10. They will hit the ice from 10:30 am to 11:30 am. Group D will be ages 7 to 8.

Footprint, a fintech infrastructure provider, raised a Series A:Footprint, a company that unifies KYC (Know Your Customer), security and authentication to automate consumer onboarding and reduce identity fraud, today announced a $13 million Series A led by QED Investors. Julen Lopetegui is expected to sign his West Ham contract today, talkSPORT understands. Lopetegui is believed to have agreed an initial two-year deal after beating off competition from Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim. The Hammers could delay formally announcing his appointment out of respect for the outgoing David Moyes. Ex-Wolves and Real Madrid manager Lopetegui was also on the radar of AC Milan and Bayern Munich.
