A Tale of Souls Rarely RetoldThere was a time when I obsessed with all things fighting games, including some of the best from gaming’s past. I was a part of an esports organization that held multiple tournaments per week where I saw some of Minnesota’s best Smash Ultimate, Tekken 7, and Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike players perform feats I barely thought were possible.

Despite Everything, Games Continue to Give JoyEvery year at Forever Classic Games we like to reflect on the state of gaming from our perspective and document our most memorable gaming experiences. As with any year, there are simply too many games so we only cover what we can as a small team. This is why some of the favorites of 2024 are not on this list – we just didn’t have the time for them.

The actual gameplay is a simple jump, slash, and light puzzling affair with a groovy bass-forward soundtrack that is satisfying to chip to away at while winding down for the night or over a few drinks with friends. I giggled through the entirety of the game and enjoyed going the extra mile to find all of the collectibles and upgrades. It can feel pretty stiff at times, but the jumping is responsive and collecting items is simple for the most part.

Thankfully, we already know that there will be some backwards compatibility for the Switch 2 that will enable players to use their physical or digital Switch games on the new console. We don’t know yet if new physical Switch 2 games will use the same slot as Switch games as there might be two slots under that flap at the top of the tablet, but the first-look trailer does show that Switch games will be compatible. However, not every single Switch game will work on Switch 2.

Despite an abundance of things to hit with a two-by-four, the game’s combat is enjoyable throughout. There are only three guns to find with no variants or upgrades to worry about, streamlining the action and allowing one to worry more about the situation at hand. This is also reflected in the game’s health system, where one can do a minor heal by pressing a button or a full heal by holding it.

We took a healing excursion last week to Sustainable Safari in Maplewood, MN to hang out with capybaras. I also held an 8-month-old kangaroo and it was such a heartwarming experience. My partner surprised me with this and I got to hang with my best friend. It was amazing! https://t.co/benGLr28vZ

I will squeal in delight if the mouse-like function works for Mario Maker 2

Not going to lie, the New World episode of Secret Level is fantastic. I really love short stories, especially fantasy/sci-fi/horror ones and I love it when one has a bit of heart. This is a really cool sequence with a touching end. https://t.co/bIOAQn7Wtc
