As camps across Canada prepare to for another summer, the leadership at Jewish operations know they can't treat this year like any other. Most years, the young campers are escaping the stress caused by disagreements with parents or boring schoolwork. But this year, coming up on nine months of ongoing conflict in Israel and rising antisemitism at home in the wake of the Oct. 7 attacks, their retreats are an escape from much more than the usual domestic concerns.

Representatives for the pro-Palestinian encampment at the University of Toronto were still deciding on Friday how to respond to an offer from the school to either end the demonstration or be issued a notice of trespass. The offer was given in the afternoon of May 23, and gave the encampment 24 hours, until 4 p.m. on Friday, to vacate before they would be issued the notice.
