CONNEAUT LAKE — The first iteration of anything is rarely perfect, but Saturday’s inaugural Conneaut Lake Sprint Triathlon went off without a hitch. Brian Gildea, one of two race directors with ALFA Endurance, said besides the rain the team was “very pleased with the outcome.”AdvertisementNearly 170 athletes registered for the race, but a few people bailed because of the weather. The triathlon consisted of a 650-yard swim, a 13.8 mile bike ride and a 3.1 mile run.

STATE COLLEGE — Meadville's dream season ended on a sour note. The Bulldogs fell to Manheim Central 3-1 (21-25, 25-23, 25-16, 27-15) in Saturday's PIAA Class 2A boys volleyball state championship match. Meadville's (19-1) hopes of winning back-to-back state titles at Penn State University's Recreation Hall were extinguished by a gritty, efficient and consistent Manheim Central (24-1) team.
