The National Railway Museum is gearing up for a landmark year of exhibitions, events, celebrations and a grand reopening, as it celebrates its 50th birthday in tandem with the 200th anniversary of the modern railway. Station Hall, closed to the public since 2023, will reopen at the York museum in September after the completion of a £10.5m refurbishment project.

The driver, the sole occupant of the car, a man in his 50s was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The man’s family have been made aware. A North Yorkshire Police vehicle had attempted to stop the car a short time before the collision. The A64 currently remains closed in both directions to allow for collision investigation work to take place and this closure is expected to remain in place until rush hour today.

Toyota Hilux pickup trucks are known to be particularly targeted by thieves. They’re frequently used by farmers and in rural communities across North Yorkshire, so it’s important for owners to be proactive in protecting their vehicles. The warning from North Yorkshire Police’s Rural Task Force follows a spate of Hilux thefts in the county last autumn – and much more recent incidents in nearby force areas.

At around 3.45am on Sunday 19 January two men have been reported as attempting to get into and stealing items from cars on Farro Drive and the surrounding streets. The police are particularly appealing for information and any doorbell footage which may show these two people in the area at the time of the incident.
