Over the past 12 years, China has been increasingly willing to leverage its economic might to pressure countries to act in its interest. The United States and its allies and partners are not prepared to counter China’s economic coercion.

The F100-229 continued to integrate legacy technologies in order to gain capability while limiting risk and cost. The digital engine control technologies first employed on the F100-220 were integrated into the upgraded engine to better manage engine wear and performance.[52]The F100-229 also incorporated materials that allowed the engine core temperature to be increased by 130°F and that extended the engine’s designed lifespan beyond 4,000 hours.
