UTPB Alumnus Ilan Yzaguirre graduated this spring with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He designed and created his own engineers ring utilizing resources on campus before walking the stage. “Being able to design and create my own ring made a final memorable experience at UTPB and a personal story that I will carry on my hand as I begin my career in the engineering profession,” said Yzaguirre.

Two UTPB students had the opportunity to attend The University of Texas/Texas A&M Investment Management Company (UTIMCO) Scholars Program in Austin. The goal of the program is to make the financial sector more accessible to driven students of all backgrounds. The students were part of a group of 50 that met with professionals from eight firms including BlackRock, PIMCO, Tripost Capital, Dimensional Fund Advisors, Alliance Bernstein, Brevan Howard, and JP Morgan.

Five University of Texas Permian Basin Counseling students completed their Play Therapy Certificates in April. The certificates equip counseling students with the knowledge they need to utilize play therapy with children in counseling sessions. “The research shows that counselors will work with children at some point in their career, yet most counselor education programs, nation-wide, do not offer a single course specific to child counseling.

It’s graduation season and one UTPB student is celebrating a major milestone in a very personal way. UTPB President Dr. Sandra Woodley made a trip to Austin this week to host a one-of-a-kind graduation ceremony—just for one student. "I feel accomplished," said Jeremy. "This is definitley a big milestone in my family, me graduating, so I am very thankful." Jeremy Hannon, an Austin native, completed his Business Management degree entirely online through UTPB.

University of Texas Permian Basin senior mechanical engineering students presented their research at the National Conference of Undergraduate Research in Pittsburgh for the first time in the program’s history. The eight undergraduates’ senior design projects included golf putter design optimization, coating system bearing, redesigning a shoulder rest for violin and viola, and the iterative design and development of a Formula SAE chassis.
