It was a pitchers’ duel through five innings in Phoenix before the Mets drew first blood with a solo home run in the sixth by Soto off of Merrill Kelly (3-2, 4.09 ERA) to give the Mets a 1-0 lead over the Diamondbacks.

    On Wednesday, the New York Mets announced that they had signed a left-handed pitcher, Colin Poche, to a minor league contract. He will report to Triple-A Syracuse. Poche, 31, has spent the first month of the 2025 season with the Washington Nationals. He was 1-2 with an 11.42 ERA over the course of 8 2/3 innings. He has appeared in 13 games and has given up 11 earned runs on 10 hits. He walked 12 and struck out 10. He has a 2.54 WHIP.

    Blade Tidwell, the Mets’ No. 15 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, got the ball in Game 1 of the doubleheader in St.Louis on Sunday for his debut. As exciting as debut day can be for a player, it was a mixed bag for Tidwell. The Cardinals roughed up the Mets’ 2022 second-round pick, tagging him for nine hits, six runs (all earned) and one home run. Tidwell struck out two and walked three in his three 2/3 innings.
