Griffin Canning joined the list of injured New York Mets pitchers after he exited Thursday’s game against the Atlanta Braves early with what the Mets said is a left ankle injury. He is set to undergo imaging of the foot. Canning pitched just 2 2/3 innings, giving up just one hit and striking out three before he went down after throwing a pitch with two outs. He threw just 36 pitches. He was helped off the field and struggled to move his left leg as he was helped off.

However, despite securing a 3-0 lead and a clean start by Montas, the Mets’ bullpen gave up seven runs as the Mets’ dropped their fifth straight game to the Braves and 10 of their last 11. Montas was overall solid in his first game as a Met, throwing five scoreless innings.

The Lightning placed Atkinson back on waivers in March after he struggled to find his offensive spark in Tampa Bay. In 2024 the Tampa Bay Lightning signed right-handed shooting forward Cam Atkinson to a one-year, $900,000 contact from the Philadelphia Flyers.
