I started running in 2022 and I’ve never regretted it. Haruki Murakami said all runners have a reason for why they run. The logic behind this is simple: any activity, regardless of how simple or trite it may seem, will become a meditative act once it turns into habit. This begs the question. Why run? I could have spent my time cycling if I needed the cardio. If the goal was just fitness, going to the gym should have done it. Of all exercises, why running?

In Plato's allegory of the cave, a group of prisoners are held in captivity. They are bound in place, fixated on the shadows on the wall from the flickering light of the flames. Their only experience of reality are the images projected across the walls from above. They are unable to see the objects nor the flames casting theses shadows. They devote their entire lives attempting to make sense of these images and to gain greater insight into the world above.
