A 24-year-old man has appeared in private at Inverness Sheriff Court accused of the attempted murder of his partner or ex-partner. Josh Mclaren, from Inverness, was represented by local solicitor John MacColl who made no plea on his client's behalf. McLaren was committed for further examination and remanded in custody. He faced three charges - one of engaging in abusive behaviour towards the woman and uttering threats of violence between January 1, 2025 and May 28, 2025.

A teenager punched and kicked a man to death in a frenzied attack because he thought a woman was being sexually assaulted. The youth was 15 at the time of the June 17, 2023 assault in a garden in Alness's Milnafua housing estate, but was aged 17 when he appeared before Lord Arthurson in the High Court in Inverness to admit the culpable homicide of Scott Mitchell (48), a BT engineer, also from Alness.

Newtonmore took their place in the Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup quarter-final draw after defeating Glenurquhart 4-0 at The Eilan on Saturday. ‘More took the lead on 38 minutes when Iain Robinson turned home a rebound after visiting goalie Stuart MacKintosh had saved from the lively Matthew Sloss. Matthew Sloss got the second as he turned inside to finish well on his left side from the right of the D with only a minute of the first half remaining.

Holders Kingussie reached the Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup quarter-finals following their 2-1 win over Skye Camanachd in Portree on Saturday. There was a ceremony ahead of the game as Skye officially opened the Donnie Martin Stand named in tribute to the club stalwart who was killed in a road accident in May 2022. During the ceremony, Kingussie captain Thomas Borthwick presented Mr Martin’s grandon Skye’s Archie Millar with a specially commissioned plaque to commemorate the occasion.

Police caught a man driving after having taken cocaine twice within three months last year, Inverness Sheriff Court was told. Gary Simon, of Seaforth Place, Maryburgh, was first stopped in his home street on May 28 with 396mcg in his system. More court newsCrime newsThen on Hood Street, also in Maryburgh, he found himself in trouble again on August 16 when the reading was 392mcg. The safe driving limit is 50mcg.
