One of the biggest criticisms I get as a podcast critic is that I don’t champion indie podcasts enough. Most of the negative feedback I receive to a review of the latest Tortoise Media show or Serial Productions series can be summarized as “big shows don’t need more publicity.”My reviews and lists are intended to showcase the best of podcasting and to give overviews of various genres. My job, at its heart, is to share recommendations with listeners. Recommendations they will actually like.

Podcasts have become so powerful that they can sway a US election, or so it’s claimed. So which new ones should you be adding to your playlist? Before the votes had been counted, political commentators were already calling the recent US elections the “podcast election”, a term that became embedded after Kamala Harris’ appearance on Call Her Daddy. Whatever you think about politics, it’s hard to deny the obvious implications of recent events: podcasts are a significant part of our media ecosystem.

Strong disagree. I think it’s a positive thing for marriages. Working can drive people apart. And those partners often engage in charitable work while on international trips. Why not make the most of the air miles?
