According to the BHVI, myopia was the most significant eye health threat of the 21st century and was expected to affect nearly half the world’s population by 2050. The College of Optometrists, the Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO) and the Optical Suppliers’ Association (OSA) have launched a joint campaign to raise awareness of the importance of children’s eye tests and better signposting for parents to children’s eye care professionals on the high street. Together, the organisations commissioned a survey of 1,008 parents on parents’ network Mumsnet to assess their understanding of children’s eye health and the support available to them.
