    RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - Rapid City is getting ready to celebrate the newly renovated Dinosaur Park. Rapid City Parks Landscape Architect Melissa Petersen says everyone is welcome and there will be fun keepsakes for the kids. The community celebration will take place Friday, August 16 from 3:30-5:45 p.m. and will include speakers such as Mayor Jason Salamun. The public will get a chance to view the $3.6 million upgrades to the park that have been in the making for nearly two years.

    RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - Medical emergencies and illnesses that require blood transfusions don’t take a holiday for the summer. That’s why Rapid City’s local blood donation center, Vitalant, is urging all eligible donors to roll up their sleeves and give blood this next month. The need for blood donations dipped to emergency levels this summer says Tori Robbins, the Communications Manager for Vitalant. The most critical need is from those with type O blood.

    DEADWOOD, S.D. (KOTA) - A 68-year-old man died in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash Sunday afternoon,  August 11. It happened two miles south of Deadwood. Larry Vincent Koneczny, driving a 2001 Harley Davidson, was traveling north on US 385 near mile marker 120 when he failed to negotiate the curve and went off the road to the right. The vehicle tripped and rolled, separating the driver from the motorcycle. Koneczny passed away from his injuries. He was not wearing a helmet.

    RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - A former state Department of Social Services employee is indicted and charged with stealing an estimated $1.8 million in state and federal funds from the department’s Child Protection Services. Lonna Carroll, 68, of Algona, Iowa is charged with two felony counts of aggravated grand theft. She was arrested Wednesday in Iowa and is awaiting extradition to South Dakota. The bond is set at $50,000.
