I’ve struggled with my summer style in the past couple of years but after a week away in Ojai, living out of a suitcase, and being really happy with everything I brought I’ve realized the joy of summer dressing is in the carefree simplicity for me! I lean hard on those effortless easy staples... always with a mix of older pieces with a few new things… (refreshed basics, accessories etc.)… but this is the first summer in a while that I feel like I’m more sure of my style if that makes sense?

I’m so much more of a summery silk / dressier pant person. I re-realized this just this past week when I wore a couple of dresses to dinner and just didn’t feel myself until our third evening out when I opted for the pants I brought!! I tend to opt for quirkier prints when it comes to pants and keep the top neutral (as seen here and also recently here).

A quick round-up of notable mid-June things I’ve been wearing / loving lately!This shirt is breathing a new life to my older summer skirts and pants (the sleeves make it feel a bit more unique and the fit is really flattering)! And the same goes with this bubble top, also from By Malene Birger (more sizes and in black here). It’s airy for summer nights and gives just the right amount of volume to make it interesting.

Last week was our 14th wedding anniversary ~ which we jokingly remarked, well this is 14 years… because we were apart (I was in Utah and he was working / back home holding down the fort with the kids). So we didn’t do anything to celebrate this year but want to plan a special longer weekend getaway for our 15th! Since we have a fair amount of travel on the calendar already this next year we are thinking maybe just a long, more local-ish, weekend next June.

Buying | This is my ideal summer set ~ I just ordered it to try / bring along for our trip to Ojai in a couple weeks with my family. We shall see how the bubble skirt is on me ~ but I’m hoping it’s just the right amount of volume to be interesting. I just love a no-brainer set (and all-white) in the summer.

Okay here we go summer! My two are officially out of school and after looking at my calendar and a few upcoming things… mostly casual… I pulled together a few looks I’d want to wear right now… mixing and matching! We just got back from a long weekend in Cabo which felt like the official kick off to summer in the best way! It was also a good reminder for any summer resort vacations and packing… that even though I packed lightly… I still only wore half of what I brought. When I’m staying at a nice resort I rarely ever want to leave the property (beach / pool)… once I’ve hit that vacay-mode button.

With the warmer weather I’ve been craving more feminine pieces, print and color in the mix. When styling these more romantic pieces I usually feel most myself by balancing the look with darker or edgier accessories. A black sandal (or unexpected colored sandal), minimal or edgier jewelry or sunglasses usually grounds the look for me. Or topping the dress with an oversized denim jacket. I pulled together a few high-low summer looks for all of the upcoming celebrations and pool days.
