Chitipa District Council has appealed to farmers under Mafinga and Marko irrigation schemes in traditional authorities (T/As) Mwenewenya and Mwabulambya to utilise the facilities to improve food security in the district. The council’s director of planning and development Smith Mnenula said this on Wednesday after touring the two irrigation schemes to appreciate what farmers are doing. Mnenula observed that the two schemes have enough land but was under-utilised.

Chitipa District Council Director of Planning and Development (DPD), Smith Mnenula made the call on Wednesday after touring the two irrigation schemes to appreciate what farmers are doing.

By Aliko Munde Chitipa, January 14, Mana: Police in Chitipa District have launched a manhunt for unknown assailants who have killed Group Village Head (GVH) Mwanyanja of Traditional Authority Nthalire in the district. Chitipa Police spokesperson Sub-Inspector Gladwell Simwaka said GVH Mwanyanja (real name Mapuzi Kaonga), aged 65, was found dead along an earth road within the village on Sunday.

By Aliko Munde Chitipa, January 10, Mana: Chitipa Police Station and the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) have teamed up to conduct awareness campaigns on child rights in schools in Chitipa District. Community Policing Coordinator for Chitipa Police Station, Inspector Frightone Kundimbule, said that the campaign is aimed at safeguarding the right of children to education in the Chitipa district.
