This year, a variety of works published in 1929, ranging from motion pictures to music to books, joined others in the public domain. The public domain has important historical and cultural benefits in the lifecycle of copyright.

Many people find themselves whether by choice or not before the family court without legal representation. Usually this is down to cost although sometimes it is a deliberate plan to try and delay proceedings, not comply with court directions or to attempt to cost the other party more. In a recent case Mainwaring v Bailey [2024] Mr M made what was described by the court as a “hopeless” appeal.

Thieves targeted a paddock at Wasleys, stealing a weather station on Wednesday, 21 August. Around 9:30 pm, the station was stolen from the Roseworthy Campus on Selleck Road. It’s fitted with a GPS, which indicates it’s within a large area near Robertstown.

A toddler is in critical condition after a crash in Port Lincoln. The 23-month-old girl was struck by a car on Tasman Terrace around 5:30 pm yesterday, 29 August. The HMAS Whyalla will be lit up in green and gold tonight in support of local athlete Sam White. Sam is representing Australia in Paris as part of the wheelchair basketball team, the Rollers. Their campaign gets underway at 5 am our time tomorrow, and the second game is also tomorrow at 8:15 pm.

A 26-year-old Port Augusta man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after being shot in the leg yesterday, 28 August. Around 2:15 am on Wednesday, police were called to Old Wallaroo Road in North Moonta after reports of the shooting. The 24-year-old shooter from the Yorke Peninsula was arrested and charged with attempted murder and aggravated causing harm to another with intent.

Disruption to operations at EP Cruises was addressed by Member for Flinders Sam Telfer in Parliament this week. The local business has struggled with red tape enforced by the Tourism and Environment Departments, making it difficult for the company to carry out overnight visits to the Nuyts Archipelago and the Investigator Group of islands. Minister Telfer said the tourism operator provided the service for a short while.
