Man who twice stabbed partner of 18 years after chasing her with three different knives jailed A judge has imposed a five-and-a-half year prison sentence on a 40-year-old man who twice stabbed his partner of 18 years after chasing her with three different knives. Mr Justice Tony Hunt commented that the assault was "another of the conveyor belt of cases committed mostly by males against females in the domestic context".

A Defence Forces chaplain who was repeatedly stabbed by a teenage boy motivated by “a radicalised Islamic mindset” has told him he forgives him, with the priest and his attacker later embracing in the courtroom. Delivering a victim impact statement, Fr Paul Murphy said there was no doubt but that he was “the right person, in the right place, at the right time” on the night of the attack and “out of all the members of our Defence Forces I was best placed to take the knife”.

A HSE addiction counsellor has been found guilty of being the getaway driver for “violent and abusive thug” Brian McHugh after he murdered Lisa Thompson by strangling her with a blind cord and stabbing her to death in her own home. The Central Criminal Court jury today agreed with the prosecution’s case that Deirdre Arnold (42) was not an “innocent abroad” and had “decided at every turn” to assist her then partner McHugh, whom she knew to have murdered mother of two Ms Thompson.

A 30-year-old man who beat his “best friend” “to a pulp” with a baseball bat after they had set out together on a fishing trip told gardaí that he wanted to kill another person, the Central Criminal Court heard on Monday. Robert Broughan also told detectives in his interviews that there had never been a “cross word” between the pair but he had swung the bat “with bad intentions and power”.
