In March The Banner wrote about two Christian Reformed women in Canada who were recognized with the King Charles III coronation medal in honor of their contributions to their communities. Then readers told us about more community-minded Christian Reformed Church members who received the same recognition. In the anniversary year of King Charles III’s coronation, 26,000 medals are being presented to civilians and 4,000 to Canadian service members.

World Renew’s 40-year track record of working with community partners on anti-poverty initiatives in Bangladesh contributed to its recent success in being awarded a $7,886,330 CAD grant over five years from Global Affairs Canada. “Matched by World Renew’s church and household donors with a $417,708 CAD contribution,” a total fund of $8.3 million CAD will be used for programs supporting vulnerable youth in Bangladesh’s Dinajpur and Netrokona districts, the agency announced March 12.

Chicago Church Celebrates Black History With Quilt Block Project

Twelve 3-foot-by-3-foot quilt blocks in patterns commemorating the freedom enslaved people sought and found through the Underground Railroad decorated the sanctuary of Pullman Christian Reformed Church through the month of February, Black History Month. It was part of the congregation’s annual recognition of Black history through weekly presentations each February.

Chantal Huinink, a member of Waterloo (Ont.) CRC, was presented with her medal by Mike Morrice, Member of Parliament for Kitchener Centre. Eleanor McComb, a member of Willoughby CRC in Langley, B.C., was selected by Tako van Popta, MP for Langley-Aldergrove.
