When Jesus met the Samaritan woman at the well and asked her for a drink, she assumed that she would be providing what He needed: a literal drink of water. Instead, she discovered that actually she needed what only this stranger was able to provide: a spiritual drink of living water. Jesus helped her to see this need with one simple command: “Go, call your husband, and come here” (John 4:16).

There’s a prevailing notion in contemporary Western culture that death is the great equalizer—that no matter what you’ve believed or what you’ve done or haven’t done, it will all be evened out when we die. Christians do not have to pretend that life feels great all the time. The apostle Paul certainly didn’t mind admitting to hardship. In fact, Paul’s trials led him to say of his troubles in Asia, “We despaired of life itself. Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death.” Trials and troubles will inevitably come—and, like Paul, we don’t have to act as though everything is always fine.

When I walk in the light and I realize the darkness that remains in my soul, instead of retreating to some formal external activity, I retreat to the cross of the Lord Jesus Christ, where all of my sins find their answer. Today's program: https://t.co/Mlq8JeeEL4

If we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. (1 John 1:7 ESV) Today's program: https://t.co/Z5Aa6krIRr https://t.co/CaUFv29LUd
