The United Kingdom was a founding party to the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade 1947 and is one of the original members of the World Trade Organization, having joined on 1 January 1995. The United Kingdom is currently a signatory to 40 free trade agreements with 91 countries. It has sought to replicate the trading agreements that previously applied to it through its membership in the European Union to ensure continuity for UK business.
