    The UK government has announced that nominations will open this summer for traditions like Notting Hill Carnival, Hogmanay and artisanal crafts to be officially recognised in a new nationwide inventory of living heritage. The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) published its response to a public consultation that sought views on ensuring the inventory encompasses the broad spectrum of traditions practised throughout the UK.

    The Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead has welcomed its ten millionth visitor this month. The centre for contemporary art first opened its doors on Saturday 13 July 2002, and reached the major milestone on Wednesday 09 April 2025. At 2:30pm, Marie and David Thompson from Northumberland become the official ten millionth visitors to the gallery, and were greeted by its director Sarah Munro MBE.

    The Tank Museum has launched a research project to conclude the fate of the world’s first successful tank prototype. Known as ‘Mother’, the tank is thought to have been scrapped in the salvage metal drive of the Second World War. But anecdotal stories suggest it may in fact still complete, buried somewhere on Bovington Camp, the British Army military base in Dorset in which the museum is based.

Taking place on 10 April 2025, the event was attended by representatives from Australia’s Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts, Queensland Museum and Traditional Custodians from Queensland communities.

    Glasgow Life, the charity responsible for 12 museums across the city, has announced the appointment of a new chief executive. Kay Morrison joins the charity from her role as chief executive of South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture (SLLC). Previously, she was chief executive of Falkirk Foundation, the official charity partner of Falkirk Football Club. She will take up her new post on Monday 7 July 2025, replacing Susan Deighan who announced her retirement earlier this year.
