A lot of rain has fallen across much of New Brunswick during the month of July. Environment Canada says storms roll through but given the scattered nature of precipitation with them during the summer months, one area can get inundated with rainfall while a nearby area may hardly get any precipitation at all. Meteorologist Jill Maepea says some cities are going to set records with still a week left to go in the month.

After 19 hours of flying in a helium balloon, U.K. husband and wife team Mike and Deborah Scholes were forced to make a controlled landing in Newfoundland, ending their transatlantic trip. The Transatlantic Balloon Challenge said a technical issue with their balloon made it unwise for them to continue across the Atlantic and a further 3,000 kilometres to Europe.

A British couple have embarked on a transatlantic journey from New Brunswick to Europe in a helium balloon. Mike and Deborah Scholes lifted off from Sussex shortly before 10 a.m. on Thursday in their specially built Cameron Rozière balloon in a daring attempt to fly non-stop across the Atlantic. The couple will spend several days in a cramped, 1.8 metre by 1.4 metre, super-light British-made wicker basket suspended below the balloon.

Little change likely at the pumps Drivers in New Brunswick may finally be getting a break at the pumps. An industry source tells our newsroom that little or no change is expected in the prices for gasoline and diesel on Friday. The reprieve comes after carbon-related hikes pushed up prices across the region this month.

Construction of the Atlantic Science Enterprise Centre (ASEC) in Moncton is underway which will house 700 federal civil servants from four agencies (Fisheries and Oceans, Environment and Climate Change, Canadian Food Inspection Agency and National Research Council) under one roof. The project was first announced in April 2021 and at that time the cost was pegged at $700 million.
