Exactly one week on from taking a drubbing in the local elections, he’s landed not one but two trade deals, with speculation of a further improved agreement with the EU. To be sure, there are imperfections in both the deals struck with India and the US — but while Nigel Farage attacked the former, he’s left the US one well alone, which Number 10 can celebrate as a win.

The UK’s former central banker Mark Carney was in no way a shoo in to become the next Canadian prime minister before the Age of Trump; and his political party, the Liberals, was on a fast track to years in the wilderness. Accepting his victory this morning, Mark Carney was too classy to simply say “Thank you Donald”.
