SASKATOON, SASK. — As Canadian politicians gathered in Saskatoon for the first ministers’ meeting, some industry leaders are calling for infrastructure investment to help get product to market. New pipelines and improvements to railways and ports would help producers increase cash flow, according to Bill Prybylski, farmer and president of the Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan. “Grain movement has been slow,” Prybylski told CTV News.

Shelly Lawrence wouldn’t have known there was a wildfire burning just minutes away from her home if it hadn’t been for the smoke. She never saw any flames when she made the decision to flee with her granddaughter. “I think I was halfway home and it was unreal smoke,” Lawrence told CTV News. She was picking up her granddaughter from school last Thursday and heading home to their place on Piprell Lake in Saskatchewan’s northern boreal forest.

Measles cases appear to be unrelenting in certain parts of the country as infections continue to climb, according to government health officials. Saskatchewan recorded 15 new cases this week, more than doubling its total to 27 infections this year. Three quarters of the infections are in children, according to Saskatchewan’s top doctor.
