It’s no surprise that I am a child of the 70s and 80s, and a teacher of the 90s-present love Eric Carle books. They hold precious childhood memories and have been launching pads for countless preschool learning activities in my classrooms for decades. These bug activities that match Eric Carle books are perfect for spring and are just a few of the educational activities for Eric Carle books I have to share with you. Small group activities for PreK shouldn’t be an extra or add-on component to your curriculum. Small group learning is a powerful tool for teaching specific concepts, working on targeted skill development, and building relationships with your students. More than anything, it is also an imperative tool for differentiating instruction and assessment. Independent art activities are a vital part of your daily routine at preschool. Preschoolers should have access to art materials and some invitations to create, curated by the adults to support students’ creativity and a secondary goal of working on specific skills. My hope is that I will work myself out of a job, and after creating fun invitations, my students will be able to look at the materials available and create on their own.
