Multiple people have died after being washed into dangerous waters across the country, prompting surf lifesavers to issue warnings against swimming during hazardous conditions over the Easter long weekend. A fisherman has died after being swept off a rock and into the water while fishing on NSW’s southern coast. Emergency services were called to Endeavour Dr at the Wollongong Harbour about 6.15am Friday after reports that a man was pulled from the water unconscious.

A man drowned at City Rock Road, Green Cape on the NSW south coast at 3pm On Friday. According to police he had been fishing before being washed off rocks. A short time later, a body was located in the water.

Several popular Sydney beaches have been closed over dangerous surf conditions on Friday, with a huge crowd of people seen gathering at one iconic swim spot to watch large and wild waves smashing the shore. Coogee Beach has been closed to swimmers, the Randwick City Council website confirmed. Footage of the wild scenes showed beachgoers sitting at the shore as enormous waves crashed in. A sign reading ‘beach closed” stood in front of the beach.
