(USGS) A 6.6.-magnitude earthquake was recorded off the coast of B.C.'s Vancouver Island Thursday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.     More temperature records were broken across B.C. Wednesday as some parts of the province continued to manage a heat wave. Daily maximum temperature records tumbled for the fourth day in a row, according to preliminary data from Environment and Climate Change Canada. Several records broken for July 10 were 98 years old and most were in B.C.'s Interior region. Sixteen new records were set for that day and one record was tied.

    The B.C. government and the City of Surrey have reached a deal to transition from the RCMP to a municipal police force with the province recommitting to $250 million in funding. The province announced the agreement Wednesday afternoon, saying it will give $30 million per year to help with transition costs until 2029. After that, and until 2034, the province will give an additional $20 million per year if Surrey Police Service salaries are higher than RCMP costs would've been.

    Vancouver police say they're investigating an early morning shooting in Yaletown Wednesday. In an emailed statement to CTV News Vancouver, police confirmed a business was targeted by a "drive-by shooting." Hamilton Street between Davie and Helmcken streets was closed to vehicles, but not to pedestrians. "The business was closed at the time of the shooting, and so as of now, there are no known injuries to anyone," Const. Tania Visintin said in the emailed statement.

    B.C.'s wildfire risk is expected to increase significantly in the coming days after a stretch of hot weather dried out parts of the province and lightning is in the forecast. As of Wednesday morning, 115 wildfires are burning across B.C., with 21 new starts in the last 24 hours, according to the BC Wildfire Service. The northeast corner of the province remains the most active, but the fire danger rating is rapidly increasing across the south as well.
