Those who identify as underrepresented in medicine (UIM) have historically experienced numerous obstacles in academic medicine. Lee and colleagues1 offer a framework for understanding how to help increase the percentage of UIM trainees who pursue academic careers. Previous studies have used frameworks to detail the challenges in both recruiting and retaining UIM in academic medicine.
