There have been so many sideways, backward and plain upside-down nonsense developments at Manchester United that it is difficult to even fantasise about how the club will rise from the ashes of a 15th-place Premier League finish and the drab, listless defeat in the Europa League final. There is, though, one player who has the ability to not only lift the gloom but transform the fortunes of a club that needs to find its way on and off the pitch.

It is offensive, religiously intolerant with shallow songs and slapstick-style childish acting, but that hardly matters because it is only being shown on Wednesdays in the matinee slot. If that is how we were presented with The Book of Mormon then hardly anyone would have booked tickets for it.
