A break from the summertime heat and humidity is on the horizon for residents across the northeastern and part of the midwestern United States later this week, AccuWeather forecasters say. “While the first half of the week will bring stifling heat and humidity to much of the East Coast, a cold front will begin to make some progress to the south and east starting Wednesday,” explained AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Carl Babinski.

Conditions have been toasty across the south-central United States during a large stretch of June. The tropics are heating up with AccuWeather meteorologists monitoring several tropical systems in the Atlantic hurricane basin, as well as the potential for the first tropical storm of the season to take shape in the eastern Pacific Ocean. As of 11 a.m. EDT Thursday, Tropical Storm Bret was 130 miles east-northeast of the island of Barbados in the eastern Caribbean and was tracking along at 14 mph.
