Rajab Al-Gafri was late for morning prayers at dawn yesterday. The delay may have saved his life. The 36-year old was still performing his ablutions at the school in Gaza City where he had sought shelter from the war when three Israeli missiles struck the section of the compound used as a mosque. “The sound was very, very loud,” he said. “I was screaming from the horror of the scene in front of me and the fire was eating people’s bodies and the place was on fire.
