This week OpenAI gave us access to GPT-4o (“o” for “omni”), which aims to compete better in speech recognition and conversation. It’s is almost certainly a stronger LLM, too. Ubuntu Server has been my go-to server operating system for years. I find it to be the best combination of user-friendly, stable and secure. That user-friendly bit is especially important to anyone who’s just now venturing into the realm of Linux on a server. Why? Because if you go with a distribution like Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Oracle Linux or AlmaLinux, you also have to contend with SELinux, which can be a serious challenge for someone who is just beginning with Linux.

After being impressed by their first ChatGPT experience, many users may be motivated to try to tailor the experience to their specific domain. We know that retraining an LLM is not a simple task, and I’ve gone over the pros and cons of RAG (retrieval-augmented generation). OpenAI also offers the GPT Builder, a way to create a customized version of ChatGPT. So let’s take a look. Frontend cloud provider Vercel acquired AI integration tool ModelFusion this week, which is now available with the release of Vercel’s AI SDK v.3.1. Both the release and acquisition bring the company “one step closer to delivering a complete TypeScript framework for building AI applications,” Vercel noted in a blog post. ModelFusion.dev will help simplify AI model integration for developers, the team said.

Two recent surveys on artificial intelligence make the case that the value proposition for AI has achieved critical mass. According to PwC’s 2023 Emerging Technology Survey, 73% of U.S. respondents stated that their company has adopted AI in some business areas. In a recent Forbes Advisor survey, 64% of respondents said AI will improve customer relationships and increase productivity, with 60% expecting AI to drive sales growth.
