Michigan’s and our nation’s students are facing the greatest threat to their public schools that we have seen in decades as the Trump administration is taking steps now to  dismantle the role of the federal government in American public education.

The problem is most acute in higher-poverty districts, however. Michigan’s unfair school funding system that inadequately funds higher-poverty districts contributes to this crisis, leading higher-poverty districts to struggle to provide competitive compensation and experience high rates of teacher turnover.
