President Biden is targeting food cost inflation as he looks to re-election. The Federal Trade Commission is going after big grocers who have gobbled up so much market share. Biden complained about “shrinkflation” where there are fewer chips in the bag or the candy bar is 5% smaller. We’re not sure that grocers or candy companies are the root of the problem. We don’t hear a whole lot about oligopolies in agriculture and food production, which is the basic human enterprise, after all.

One of my favorite days of the entire year is the Century and Heritage Farm ceremony that takes place during the Iowa State Fair. During the all-day event in the historic Livestock Pavilion, hundreds of multi-generational farm families, many in matching T-shirts, wait their turns to proudly walk across the stage to receive recognition for owning a Century Farm (100 years) or Heritage Farm (150 years).

An Albert City bank has filed for foreclosure of the shuttered Pleasantview Home, which allegedly owes $1.2 million against the former nursing home. Community State Bank sued the Albert City Improvement Corporation, the holding company of the nursing home, through a foreclosure petition Feb. 21.
