New York Sirens forward and Michigan native Abby Roque scored the first-ever "Michigan"-style goal in Professional Women's Hockey League history Saturday in a 5-2 loss to the Ottawa Charge. Roque carried the puck behind Ottawa's net and goaltender Gwyneth Philips, lifted it onto her stick and wrapped it into the top corner and flung it in the net.

The Florida Panthers signed coach Paul Maurice to a multiyear extension, president of hockey operations and general manager Bill Zito announced Tuesday. The new contract will take effect starting in 2025-26 after his existing deal expires at the end of this season. Maurice guided the Panthers to the Stanley Cup Final in each of his first two seasons behind the bench, leading the club to its first-ever championship last season.

When Chris Woo was 13 years old, he sent a letter addressed to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, specifically to forward Paul Kariya. "I wrote about how cool it was to see a player of Japanese descent get drafted so high, " said Woo, who is of Chinese and Japanese descent. "I never thought I'd hear back from him."Kariya was selected by the expansion Mighty Ducks earlier that year as the No. 4 pick in the 1993 NHL Draft.

Detroit Red Wings goaltender Jack Campbell has entered the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program and will be away from the club indefinitely, the league announced Friday. Campbell's reason for entering the program, which assists players and their families with mental health, substance abuse and other matters, was not disclosed by the NHL. Per program rules, Campbell can return to the team when approved for on-ice competition by program administrators.
