A West Bridgewater man who rented a room at a residential daycare was sentenced to federal prison on Wednesday, May 7, for receiving and possessing child sexual abuse material, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts announced in a press release. Juan Levano, 24, of West Bridgewater, was sentenced to five years in prison followed by five years of supervised release on one count of receipt of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography.

The New Heights Charter School in Brockton was evacuated after smoke was discovered inside the building's electrical room the morning of Friday, May 9, according to Brockton Fire Chief Brian Nardelli. At approximately 9:15 a.m., the Brockton Fire Department received reports of smoke at New Heights Charter School. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered smoke in the building's electrical room.

BROCKTON — A 25-year-old man was found guilty of fatally stabbing his parents in their Middleboro home in 2020, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz announced in a press release. Ryan True, 25, of Middleboro, was convicted of two counts of first-degree murder in Brockton Superior Court following a 7-day jury trial, Cruz said Thursday, May 8. A first-degree murder charge in Massachusetts is punishable with up to life in prison without the possibility of parole, according to state law.
