    A local robotics group is aiming to put its work on the global stage. The Okotoks Stratobots are a team of students in grades 9 to 12 competing in the FIRST Tech Challenge, a worldwide youth robotics competition. After winning the FIRST Inspire Award, the Stratobots are on their way to the Alberta Championship for the first time in their five-year history. "It is the biggest award in FIRST," said team member Abby Plumb.

    Diamond Valley's monthly non-profit concert series will see a familiar face take the stage this weekend. Calgary singer-songwriter Steve Pineo, who has worked with country icons such as Paul Brandt and Prairie Oyster, is excited to return to Beneath the Arch and debut his band's new show. "I've been playing around Alberta since the late '80s," said Pineo. "I've been to Beneath the Arch about four or five times, so this will be the first time with the Prohibition Hall Show.

    Students at Turner Valley School surpassed all expectations at their charity market. The Grade 6 students aimed to raise $300 over the three-day market, with each event running over lunch hour on Feb. 8, 9 and 12.     Diamond Valley's growth is continuing with a shopping centre set to come on stream next year. Diamond View Marketplace, located at 101 Willow Ridge Blvd., adjacent to Oilfields General Hospital, will feature over 43,000 square feet of retail space. A grocery store is scheduled to be the anchor tenant of the Taurus Property Group project. The franchise has not yet been determined but is tentatively set to be a Sobeys or IGA.

    It's the final day of the Okotoks Hot Chocolate Festival, in which 16 local businesses created unique hot chocolates in a friendly competition. The iconic annual festival, which is celebrating its fifth anniversary, has run from Feb. 7-17. Event organizer Katie Fournell is ecstatic about how it went this year. "The engagement in the festival has been amazing," said Fournell. "Attending the festival right out of the gate, people were eager and waiting for it, which was really cool.
