The student-run service was established around 2010 by the now-defunct student union, the Student Federation of the University of Ottawa, but non-practicing religious students may not be familiar with it. The MFC was designed as a “space for faith-based groups to meet, celebrate and practice their beliefs” in an inclusive environment.

I like the parts of you that allow me to find new art and celebrate new interests with like-minded people. It’s also incredible how you help connect me to friends and family hundreds of miles away. And let’s not even get into the hours we’ve spent together since I was young (long live flash games!). You’ve done a lot of good for a lot of people, but also a lot of bad for many others.

I began at the U of O in 2019, five years (and two program changes) ago, excited to become an independent young scholar. But right as I was looking forward to the next year in a new city, with new courses and new friends, all campus activities were shut down. To be frank, nothing has really been the same since then, including the way I view education.
