Scrivo queste parole dalla Cisgiordania con un profondo senso di dolore e di sconfitta, mentre i termini contrastanti “vittoria”, “genocidio”, “cancellazione”, “lotta eroica” e “conquista storica” ricorrono continuamente quando si parla del popolo palestinese e degli abitanti di Gaza in particolare. La Striscia di Gaza mi ha incantato, come ha incantato molte persone che l’hanno visitata e hanno conosciuto il suo popolo.

Israele è stato sconfitto, e la sua sconfitta continua. E non perché dopo nove mesi di guerra Hamas non è ancora stato neutralizzato. Il simbolo della sconfitta figurerà per sempre accanto a quelli dell’ebraismo, come la menorah, e alla bandiera di Israele perché i leader, i comandanti e i soldati israeliani hanno ucciso e ferito migliaia di palestinesi, seminando desolazione nella Striscia di Gaza. Perché l’aviazione ha bombardato edifici pieni di bambini, donne e anziani.
