    Sometimes I wonder how much the British as colonial powers have impacted India and contributed to its history, legacy and most importantly creation of hill stations. A case in point is McLeodganj in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh. As the name itself suggests, the popular hill station was named after Donald Friell McLeod, Lieutenant-Governor of Punjab (1865-1870) who apparently had a role in the creation of the hill station and making it an army cantonment for the Gurkha Battalion.

It has a huge well kept promenade facing the sea, running for several kilometres, something similar to Mumbai where the Marine Drive resembles it to some extent.
