Darjeeling: The Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) area is all set to get four new fire stations. While two among the four will come up in the Kalimpong district at Algarah and Gorubathan, the remaining two will be located in the Darjeeling district at Sonada and Sukhipokhari. All four will be two-pump fire stations. “The process for the Sukhiapokhri fire station is nearly complete. Land has been located on Pokhriabong Road. The land is under the Darjeeling Improvement (DI) Fund.

Darjeeling: The tourism department of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) has labelled the existing pavilion at Tiger Hill, Darjeeling as an unsafe and flawed structure and plans to dismantle it. It will be replaced by a state-of-the-art “Observatory Gallery and Deck” with modern amenities. The tourism department of the GTA invited tourism stakeholders to watch a PowerPoint presentation of the proposed construction on Monday.

Anit Thapa, Chief Executive of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA), stated that this will be an Independence Day gift to the public. Darjeeling: The Hills are once again on the boil over “Sahid Diwas” (Martyrs’ Day) commemoration slated for Saturday. While some hill outfits have to down shutters half way in Kalimpong and full in Darjeeling from noon to 1 pm ‘in remembrance of martyrs,’ the Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha (BGPM) has opposed the downing of shutters as part of the commemorations. This has made the situation fluid in the Hills, especially in Kalimpong.

Darjeeling: The day after Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) chief Anit Thapa raised objections to the district administration of Darjeeling and Kalimpong taking unilateral decisions without consultation with the GTA in matters regarding land, Rajesh Chauhan, Deputy Chairman, GTA was in Kolkata on Friday to meet the concerned ministers. He claimed that the ministers on behalf of the Chief Minister had assured him that the district administration henceforth would abstain from such action.
