April 13, (THEWILL) – Two months shy of a year since the Supreme Court of Nigeria delivered a historic judgment that upheld the financial autonomy of the 774 local government areas of the federation as the third tier of government, nothing concrete has happened. The apex court also ordered the Accountant–General of the Federation to pay federal allocations directly to the LGA accounts. It declared that failure by the 36 states to remit funds to the LGAs was unconstitutional.
