Last weekend, two women were swept to their deaths by rising floodwaters in Oxford. Communities from Southbury to Newtown and in between were battered by heavy rainfall and severe flooding. Sadly, this experience is not new to the state. In June, a man was killed by a falling tree during a sudden storm; his death was just one of 85 tree-related deaths in Connecticut over the past two decades, of which 58% were caused by high wind storm events.
